You can get dental implants at Main Dental of Melissa, inside FarmHouse121 at 3310 Sam Rayburn Hwy, Suite 400. Dr. Byung Kim and our team handle the whole process in one office: the exam and 3D scan, any extraction you need, placing the implant, and the final crown. Most cases take a few months from start to finish because the implant needs time to bond with your jawbone.

We see patients from Melissa, Anna and north McKinney, so you don't have to drive into Dallas for implant care.

What is a dental implant?

An implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up. It has three parts:

Part

What it does

Implant post (titanium)

Sits in the jawbone and works like a tooth root

Abutment

Connects the post to the new tooth

Crown

The part you see, made to match your other teeth

Because the post is in the bone, an implant doesn't lean on the teeth next to it the way a bridge does.

What are the steps?

  1. Exam, X-rays and a 3D scan. We check the bone where the tooth used to be and plan where the implant should go.

  2. Your treatment plan. We go over the timeline, the cost and if a same-day implant could work for you.

  3. Extraction, if needed. If a damaged tooth is still there, we remove it carefully to protect the bone around it.

  4. Placing the implant. The post goes into the jawbone. We'll go over what to expect in the days after, before you leave.

  5. Healing. Over the next few months, the bone grows around the post. This step is what makes an implant solid.

  6. Abutment and crown. Once it's healed, we attach the abutment and your custom crown.

How long does it take?

Plan on a few months for most single implants. Healing time depends on your bone, your health and whether you needed an extraction or bone graft first. In some cases we can remove a tooth, place the implant and put on a temporary crown in one visit. We'll tell you at your consult if that's an option for you.

What affects the cost of an implant?

We don't give one flat price over the phone because cases are very different. These are the things that change the cost:

  • How many teeth you're replacing

  • Whether a tooth needs to come out first

  • Whether you need a bone graft

  • The type of crown

  • What your dental insurance covers

If you have a PPO plan, our front desk will check your benefits and file the claim for you. If you don't have insurance, our in-house membership plan ($299 a year for adults, $249 for kids) includes 20% off major treatment, implants included. The plan is for patients without insurance and can't be combined with other offers.

Are implants my only option for a missing tooth?

No. A bridge or a partial denture can also replace missing teeth, and for some people they're the better choice. It depends on your bone, your health and your budget. We'll walk you through the options side by side so you can decide.
